Social Media: What to look out for in 2014

Each year social media grows and new social media websites and apps are created. Some fail, while others succeed, and some even make a comeback. Here is what we think you should lookout for in 2014.

Google+

As crazy as it sounds, both Forbes.com and FoxBusiness.com are saying that Google+ is still growing in numbers and will continue to become more popular as a social media outlet. I personally do not understand this. Maybe because I have had a Google+ account since they came out and have been active on it maybe a dozen times. Only time will tell if this prediction is correct.

Nextdoor

I came across nextdoor.com while researching this blog. This is a social media network just for your neighborhood. I see this as a very nice idea, started in San Francisco, CA to keep neighborhoods safe. One might argue that you can keep tabs on your neighborhood via Facebook or Twitter, but what if you don’t want your neighbors to know everything you post on Facebook? What if you simply want to find a trustworthy babysitter, spread the word about a break in, start a neighborhood watch group, have people look out for a lost pet, etc? Nextdoor.com is the place for that, and more!

“Nextdoor is the private social network for you, your neighbors and your community. It's the easiest way for you and your neighbors to talk online and make all of your lives better in the real world. And it's free. Thousands of neighborhoods are already using Nextdoor to build happier, safer places to call home.”

Shots of Me

People love posting selfies. Am I wrong in saying this? No. Selfies are incredibly common on all social media sites, (and there are already dozens of apps for sharing pictures), but Shots of Me is predicated to join the running in 2014. It’s “a fun easy way to share selfie photos.” Oh, did I forget to mention that Justin Bieber helped fund this app? So of course the millions of "beliebers" out there are going to jump on this app soon if they haven’t already.

Sportlobster

This is a ‘one stop shop’ for sports fans. This is another network I hadn’t heard about until researching this blog, but is sounds ideal for the sports fan. “Predict results, see live scores, write blogs, read news, post your opinion and connect with fellow fans. An experience tailored to your preferences in sport.”

What Sports fan wouldn't use this new social media app? We will find out in 2014!

Impossible

I really can not say it any better myself so I am quoting impossible.com’s website here:

“impossible.com - is a new website and app that encourages people to do things for others for free. People can post wishes of things that they want or need help with and offer what they can give – can be things or skills. Impossible shows these wishes and offers and people can connect with one another. You can also create thank you posts to send people.”

It sounds like a really nice place for giving and sharing; an open space to help others. Check it out for yourself.

Here's to 2014. Have a safe and healthy New Year!

It’s amazing how often we hear about Google+, but don’t know very many people who actual use it.
